Blogger SPOTlight: nOURISHING aMY

August what?!
I really don't want to say this but when August arrives I automatically start to prepare myself for those Autumn months. Everyday I wake pop expecting the trees to have turned and the cooler weather to have set in. I don't think I'm quite ready for that just yet...summer needs to stay a little longer please!

Anyhoo, a new month means only one thing- a new Blogger Spotlight is here! This month I am chatting to the lovely Amy from Nourishing Amy.
Amy's blog is very new but I am interested to see how, only three months in, she has found the blogging life and where she wants to take things with her blog.

Tell me a little about yourself and your blog...
Hi, I’m Amy. I’m a self-confessed foodie who is passionate about all things wellness, health and happiness. I am the plant-based enthusiast behind the recipe and lifestyle blog Nourishing Amy and believe in nourishing your body in every possible way. I have been living a vegan lifestyle for a couple of years and am more enthusiastic about it now than ever. My way of eating and living has always been a personal choice in order to be the very best human that I can be, and my blog is a way for me to express this.

How long have you been blogging and what kind of content can we find on your blog?
I have been blogging for 3 months now and I have loved every second of it. You can find healthy breakfast bowl ideas such as indulgent chocolate smoothie bowls and fluffy pancakes perfect for brunch, alongside colourful rainbow buddha bowls sure to brighten up any evening meal. There are some quick and easy snacks like my Berry Peanut Butter Muesli Bars and my favourite Ultimate Banana Bread. All my recipes are vegan, usually refined sugar free and nearly always offer a gluten or nut free option. I also post a monthly inspirational theme and love hearing what it means to my readers. That’s not it – you’ll be able to read my Nourishing Reviews, from avocado toast in London to eating in Zurich, I share snippets of my foodie travels.

What made you choose to start a blog and why did you choose the subject/s you blog about?
Having and contributing to a blog has been a long-term dream of mine. Despite my #positivevibesonly I lacked confidence in my self-worth as in influencer, and it wasn’t until I had been sharing my dinner and breakfast bowl posts for well over a year that I decided to believe in myself. I wanted to share not only my food, but my hopes and dreams and was passionate about inspiring others. Instagram was a great platform to do so, but after a while I wanted to grow. I realised I was the only one holding me back: for fear or rejection or failure. Thanks to the amazing support from family and friends – real and virtual – I turned my dream into a reality and set up Nourishing Amy, the blog. May 1st 2018 was the start of something beautiful and I have not looked back since. I wrote a full blog post about my journey here.

Where do you find inspiration from for your blog?
I find inspiration everywhere around me, from my phone screen to the natural world. Instagram and the plethora of gorgeous food and hard-working bloggers is a huge source of inspiration. I often see posts and crave to re-create something similar – I “Amy-fy” it, as I like to call it. My family inspire me as I love to turn a non-vegan dish into something that everyone can enjoy – and not even realise it’s vegan or healthy. This is the idea behind a lot of my baking; for example, my Cherry Almond Bakewell Cake and my aforementioned Ultimate Banana Bread. Nature is a wonderful inspiration, too, and I often find my lifestyle posts are based around a moment of calm in the garden. Plus, I love using homegrown produce, so that features heavily. I am also an avid cookbook reader, seeking out new cooking techniques, exciting ingredients combinations and, mostly, beautiful food styling tips.

Do you have any big plans for your blog?
My main ambition for my blog is to watch it grow into all that I believe it can be. I would love to increase the number of guest articles and features I post, as well as continuing to create great content that entices other brands and bloggers to work with me. I plan to celebrate each mile-stone of achievement to let the world know just how proud I am.

Tell me about your proudest blog achievement.
My proudest blog achievement has to be my recent nomination for the HBC Blog Awards 2018, where I am shortlisted for the Best New and Noteworthy Blog after only 2 months of blogging – I was pretty excited. I am also incredibly proud that I started my blog, and that on the launch day, I received well over 100 unique visits. That felt amazing.

What has been your biggest blog disaster?
To date, I cannot think of a huge blog disaster (touching wood as I write this) but I have numerous mini disasters thanks to typos and autocorrect: but butter (nut butter), eating dogs on my breakfast bowls (figs). Oh, and for a while, I had been tagging totally the wrong Instagram account in my posts before being asked why I kept tagging this poor girl. Note to self: re-read very closely and triple-check who you tag.

Time is always a big discussion point between bloggers, how do you manage your time?
I have been really fortunate time-wise over the last few months as I find myself changing career and have until September before I start my course. I am so grateful to live at home, and have the support of my family to help me manage my time. It meant I had time to myself to launch a blog when I felt ready and to work on my content in the daytime when that natural light is most beautiful. That said, it is all about blogging when I feel inspired and I’m mindful of what I want to achieve. I used to put a lot of pressure to post without fail at set times/days but my passion couldn’t shine through, so I’m a little more patient with myself. Despite my time, I still feel overwhelmed when I know I have a few things to post about and cannot prioritise them. That’s when I take a step back and think. I am interested to see how I will manage when I am in full time education again and hope to use my evenings and weekends to work on Nourishing Amy to feel inspired.

Lastly, where do you see your blog in 5 years time?
I hate questions like these! I am absolutely loving the work I am able to do with my blog and the posts I am creating at the moment, so I would love that to continue. I am passionate about growing Nourishing Amy so I hope to be reaching a wider community, inspiring a greater number of people and see more and more readers re-create my nourishing vegan dishes. Working with more brands and bloggers is a definite goal of mine, and in the long-term, a Nourishing Amy cookbook is at the top of my dream list.

A massive thank you to Amy for answering these questions! I love how new and young Amy's blog is yet she has already made herself known within the blogging industry. A nomination at the HBC awards in the bag already...amazing!!
I love Amy's easy going approach to blogging too and I completely agree that when you put yourself under too much pressure your passion and love for what you do doesn't shine through. Let's just all chill out a little and post when we feel like it; that's when amazing content is created :).
